Thrash, death, nu, doom, core. These are just some of the names associated with the juggernaut that is metal music, and each have their own powerhouses of the genre.
This list isn’t a definitive collection of the best metal tracks around, it’s just 7 of what we think are some of the best.
Bring Me The Horizon – ‘Shadow Moses’
Love them or hate them, BMTH have some of the hardest hitting, pit opening anthems in their catalogue, and Shadow Moses is no exception. The slow, almost orchestral intro, leading into Oli’s scratchy, iconic screams gear you up for an absolute mosh, and you won’t be leaving without gasping for air.
Gojira – ‘The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe‘
From the moment the drums hit, to the absolutely insane breakdown, this song will have you HOOKED from start to finish. Gojira are known for their incredible performances, and this track is a masterpiece throughout. If you need any convincing as to how good Gojira are, this track will sway your opinion without a doubt.
Sepultura – ‘Roots Bloody Roots‘
How does one capitalise on the emergence of a new genre that is taking the world by storm? How about creating arguably the best Nu-metal album of all time? Sepultura blew everyone away with the release of Roots, straying far away from their thrash roots for a newer, groovier style. The title track, Roots Bloody Roots is the anthem that the Nu genre didn’t know it needed, but welcomed with open arms.
Poppy x Grimes – ‘Play Destroy‘
Now, don’t be fooled by the soft, angelic voices of Poppy and Grimes, because this song will kick you in the face and steal your goldfish. The duo’s voices blend perfectly with the clearly Nu-influenced track, and give it a personality which makes this track stand out amongst the others in our list. Oh, and also the riff is absolutely orgasmic to the ears.
Rammstein – ‘Du Reichst So Gut‘
This song is fantastic. Rammstein’s first take on the Industrial scene proves why they’re the best in the business. The addition of German techno-style beats and synth lines makes this song one you can tear up the pit to, or pump your fist like you’re at Tomorrowland.
Kevin Sherwood, Elena Siegman, Malukah & Clark S. Nova – ‘Archangel‘
A song from a video game makes the list?! BLASPHEMY! All jokes aside, this is a killer song, that will surely exceed your expectations of what video game music can be. Found on the Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 zombies map ‘Origins’, it’s almost impossible to play a game of this map without activating this Easter egg (yes, it’s an easter egg). Excellent riffs, incredible vocals and an absolutely impeccable breakdown, this track is a MUST for any Death metalhead.
Andrew W.K – ‘Party Hard‘
What genre is Andrew W.K? Thrash? Glam? Hair?? We prefer… party! The Patron of Partying rounds off this list with his ever loved debut album smash hit. The moment you hear that intro, you better be ready to have a party. Pizza is also HIGHLY recommended while partying. Trust, the man himself would say the same thing.
